How To Improve Video Quality In Pulse Text App

  1. Raul22perez , via OnePlus 7T , May 2, 2020 :
I've had this problem like forever and I tried contacting the app developers for Textra which is the texting app I use but they said it was the phone not their app. The issue is everytime I get a video on messages or Textra app the quality is horrible and it plays it in a tiny screen. Does anyone else have this problem ? I've already uninstalled and re downloaded the app and it seems to still happen, even with the factory app Messages. Funny thing it doesn't happen in WhatsApp or other kind of messaging apps. Only in texts. please help it's horrible to not be able to see a clear video ! I screen recorded everything so if you want to see the video I can send it to further analyze it but I'll screenshot some pictures of my issue. The last picture I screen shot of the white truck was a video playing from WhatsApp, which is clear, how all my videos should play. this only happens in videos and not pictures.

Videos sent via SMS have always looked bad and will remain like that unfortunately. Photos are still acceptable but not videos. That's how SMS is, can't really do anything about that until Google rolls out RCS everywhere (and everyone is using Google messages). Best thing you can do it send via Google photos link or Whatsapp or a 3rd party, internet based messaging app.

Different apps have different compression image/video compression algorithms, some apps compress them so much that their quality degrades like the examples you gave. Whatsapp compresses too but the quality doesn't go below average in whatsapp.

So everyone is saying that it's been like that forever and they can send a man to the moon, but yet phone developers can't seem to send and compress clear videos to share ?? Like come on at least they can start off by using WiFi to send these videos and just figure it out. That's absurd to be using other third party apps just to view videos. Every year phones promote their better cameras but what's the point if you can't even see them how their intended without complicating your life. Seriously they need to step up their game. I don't need to spend over 600 dollars on something that doesn't help

I do understand that if you send a video through text it's pretty lame, but it's too much of a hassle to be opening other apps to just send a short clip through a text especially if not ALL your users in the group chats have the same apps you wish to send the videos through. This is what I find stupid, not that fact that I can't it actually because I don't find the need to be switching between apps just to get my point made.

so all the iPhone users I have I literally have to force them to download an app to text me through just to see high quality videos ? it's 2020 what era are they going to upgrade these systems to be able to achieve something so simple.

No, Iphone supports RCS. It should work fine with them.

  11. Raul22perez , via OnePlus 7T , May 27, 2020 :
should is a strong word since I got pictures sent from my cousins iPhone 11 and they look blurry or pixel like so I'm assuming it's the phone since I saw the pics before she sent them and they're crystal clear so I don't think they always support RCS but anyhow I guess I'll keep using WhatsApp for all the media since this can't be fixed in the next 20 years prob

Actually, it looks like I was incorrect. There is no interoperability planned for iMessage and Google Messages RCS.

What I typically do (so that I don't have to use a separate app) is create a link in Google Photos and then share the link. That gives them a really high quality version of the image/video.
